 Professional sportspersons earn all or part of their livelihood by participating in sporting events, either individually or as players in a group. They usually are specialized in a single sport including Australian Rules Football, basketball boxing, cricket, golf, netball, rugby league and soccer, swimming, tennis, and so on though some may choose to play multiple sports.

 Education & Training for a Sportsperson


 You can be sportsperson with no formal qualifications. But, having a high degree of proficiency in the chosen sport is necessary. The athletes who participate in a team sport will be under the direction of a coach whose job is to build and refine their skills. Individual athletes usually have coaches to aid them to achieve elite levels. Sportspeople who are still at school might want to improve their abilities by attending a specialized sports high school that combines traditional school subjects and specialized sports coaching and competition in a range of sports.Many sporting organisations offer traineeships to potential top-level sportspeople in particular areas of. Training is also available in related areas such as coaching, sport development, refereeing/umpiring and sports administration.Sportspeople may study courses in sports-related areas such as sports science, human movement studies, physiotherapy, sports administration, sports coaching, sports journalism, physical education and sports psychology. However, these courses are not required to be employed as a professional athlete.

 National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) offer scholarships to assist elite athletes to live and train, occasionally in collaboration and with Australian Sports Commission in Canberra. Australia Sports Commission Australian Sports Commission offers a variety of programs for sports, which cover many different sports, including a small number for disabled athletes. A few athletes could have the opportunity to train overseas.
